On February 13, 1879, we commemorate the birth of the remarkable Sarojini Naidu. She was not only a political activist, but also a gifted poetess. After India gained independence, she became the first Governor of United Provinces, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s history. Her contribution to the Indian independence movement against the oppressive British Raj cannot be overstated. Breaking gender barriers, she became the first Indian woman to hold the prestigious position of President of the Indian National Congress, as well as being appointed as governor of a state.

Born into a Bengali family in Hyderabad, Naidu received her education in Madras, London, and Cambridge. Her time in Britain exposed her to the suffragist movement, igniting her passion for social change. This led her to join the Congress party’s fight for India’s freedom. Embracing Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of swaraj or self-rule, Naidu wholeheartedly committed herself to the national movement. In recognition of her dedication and leadership, she was chosen as the Congress president in 1925. When India finally achieved independence in 1947, Naidu assumed the role of Governor of the United Provinces.

Naidu’s poetic prowess earned her the endearing nickname “Nightingale of India” from none other than Mahatma Gandhi himself. Her poems were praised for their vibrant imagery, captivating lyrical quality, and profound themes. From heartfelt verses for children to poignant works centered around patriotism and tragedy, her literary oeuvre showcased her versatility and depth. Among her notable creations, “In the Bazaars of Hyderabad,” published in 1912, stands out as one of her most cherished poems.

Let us remember and celebrate Sarojini Naidu, a true luminary in India’s history and an inspiration to all, on this special day dedicated to her birth.

Tirupati Darshan Timings Today Status 13.2.2024

On the auspicious date of 13.02.2024, a grand total of 68,363 devout pilgrims were blessed with the sacred darshan at the holy site. Among them, 19,609 devotees chose to express their deep devotion and surrender by offering their hair as a symbol of sacrifice.
