The High Courts in India commonly release an annual holiday schedule that aligns with the holidays established by the Government of India. In addition, these courts prioritize local festivals and provide official orders to announce early dismissals during summer vacations and extended breaks for significant festivals.
Let’s take Tamil Nadu as an example. Subordinate Courts, including Family Courts, consider Sundays as non-working days. However, there are ten specific Saturdays on which these courts will operate: 06.01.2024, 03.02.2024, 02.03.2024, 06.04.2024, 15.06.2024, 06.07.2024, 03.08.2024, 21.09.2024, 16.11.2024, and 07.12.2024.
Except for the aforementioned Saturdays, all other Saturdays are designated as holidays for Subordinate Courts, excluding Family Courts. Family Courts in Tamil Nadu will be in session on the first and third Saturdays of each month, except for public holidays, while all remaining Saturdays are considered holidays. The regular court hours for both Subordinate and Family Courts are from 10:00 A.M to 4:30 P.M., with a lunch break from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Saturdays are full working days for both courts and their affiliated offices. The working hours for offices associated with Civil Courts are from 9:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
