Bakrid 2023 is celebrated throughout the Muslim world as a remembrance of Prophet Abraham’s readiness to sacrifice everything to God, even his son. Eid al-Adha occurs on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth and last month in the Islamic calendar. When is Bakrid 2023 in India?
For this year, Bakrid, or Eid ul-Adha, is predicted to start on the evening of Wednesday, 28 June 2023, till the dusk of Thursday, 29 June 2023.
On this auspicious day, people generally commence with prayers and head over to the nearby mosques for the early morning namaz. Followed by the cheerful greetings of “Eid Mubarak,” which reverberate from every corner of the globe.
The primary adherence of Bakrid in India is the symbolic reenactment of Ibrahim’s obedience by offering a cow, goat, lamb, buffalo, or camel. Then, numerous Muslim families offer the meat from the sacrificed animal to family, neighbors, friends, and the poor with the belief of serving all Muslims a meat-based meal on this holy day. Besides, Sheer khurma, a sweet treat cooked with milk, vermicelli, and dry fruits, is another important aspect of the Bakrid.
