School Reopening Dates in Kerala 2023
As per media reports, schools in Kerala are slated to resume on Monday, June 5th, 2023. In the upcoming academic year 2023-24, it is likely that Saturdays will be working days for Kerala schools. This decision will lead to half of the total number of Saturdays in the academic year becoming working days for schools, provided the government instructs school authorities to ensure a minimum of 220 working days. The Director of Public Education presented a suggestion in this regard in the draft academic calendar year during a meeting. The previous academic year witnessed nearly 200 working days due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
To make up for the lost time, classes will be held for students on three Saturdays each in the months of June, September, October, January, February, and March. Similarly, two Saturdays in August, November, and December will also be working days. However, all Saturdays in July will be declared working days. In total, there will be 28 working Saturdays if the new calendar comes into place. The VHSE has recommended a total of 221 working days, while only 192 working days have been suggested for higher secondary schools. It is important to note that the RTE Act stipulates a minimum of 1000 academic hours every year.
Kerala School Reopen Date Latest News 2023
In a recent announcement, the General Education Minister of Kerala, V Sivankutty, disclosed some news that has left students and their families feeling let down. The minister stated that summer vacation, which typically lasts for 60 days following the academic year, will be shortened to ensure that schools in the state run for a total of 210 working days. Starting from the academic year 2023-24, schools will be closed from March 31 and reopen on June 1, with summer vacation beginning only on April 6, 2024.
This ruling will impact over 4 lakh students who will start their Plus 1 classes from July 1, 2023. On the reopening day this year, there were only 38 students present in school. However, this decision has been met with disapproval from several parents who are worried about the mental well-being of their children. The Kerala High Court has also declined to permit schools to conduct vacation classes, so that students can have some much-needed time off with their loved ones.
School Bag Policy in India 2023
Moving on to the School Bag Policy 2023, a school bag is defined as a bag that children use to carry books and other school-related items to and from school. It is usually carried over the shoulder or on the back like a backpack. The issue of bad posture and backache in children and adolescents has become a prevalent problem in India and abroad. It has been addressed frequently in scientific publications, with some excerpts mentioned below. The school bag is a common cause of backache in school-going children. A heavy bag may cause a child to compensate by leaning their body forward, which can strain muscles in their neck, shoulders, and back. Additionally, the child may find it challenging to put the bag on.
